IBS Symptoms

IBS is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder that affects the large intestine. The common symptoms of IBS can vary for IBS patients, but some of the most common symptoms include:

Abdominal pain or discomfort:

Abdominal pain or discomfort can be a dull ache or a sharp, crampy pain that is often relieved by passing stool.

Bloating:

Bloating is a feeling of fullness or swelling in the abdomen.

Gas:

Excessive gas can cause bloating, cramping, and abdominal discomfort.

Diarrhoea:

Diarrhoea is loose, watery stools caused by increased secretion of the lining of the intestines, causing considerable discomfort. The frequency of urges to go to the toilet can range from several times per day up to different forms of urgency and agitation.

Constipation:

Constipation can lead to hard, dry stools that require more effort than normal to pass after being formed in the intestine for too long. If a person is feeling particularly bloated along with difficulty releasing stools, it's likely they are experiencing constipation.

Alternating diarrhoea and constipation:

Some people with IBS experience both diarrhoea and constipation, which can alternate over time.

Changes in bowel movements:

This can include changes in the frequency, consistency, and appearance of stools.

Mucus in the stool:

Some people with IBS may notice mucus in their stool. Mucus in their stool could be indicative of a more pressing and underlying issue.

Nausea:

This is a feeling of queasiness or discomfort in the stomach that can be accompanied by an urge to vomit.

It's important to note that the severity and frequency of these symptoms can vary from person to person, and not everyone with IBS will experience all of these symptoms. Some people with IBS may experience other symptoms, such as fatigue, back pain, and sleep disturbances.

Gut Restoration & IBS Treatment Sydney

Most gut issues come from an unhealthy microbiome, poor digestion, issues with transit time, or an overactive immune system. The Microbiome is the mix of bacteria, fungi, viruses and more that inhabit your digestive system. Think of it like the vital organ you never knew you had!

For weight loss to be sustainable, the microbiome needs to change. Studies have been done on twins – one obese, the other skinny. Researchers gave their stool to mice and fed them the same diet and exercise. The mouse that received the stool (so had some of the bacteria transferred) from the obese twin, became obese. The mouse that received the stool from the skinny twin stayed skinny. The reason is your microbiome processed the calories you eat, and some bacteria for example eat more of them, so you absorb less and vice versa!
